What's Shaine up to these days?

This is a “now page”, which is intended to give you an update on what I’m focusing on right now. (This update is from 2022-10-21.)

Personal.

We’ve just gotten back from El Paso, Texas from a wedding. Consequently, I’m swiftly recovering from a cold that I picked up along the way.

Squidtree.

I’ve been actively updating the site of late. It now supports this current page, reads page content from markdown files rather than hard coded templates for ease of update, and supports my new note archive. Notes now provide better navigation as well!

Reading.

I’m leading a book club at Nav for An Elegant Puzzle: Systems of Engineering Management by Will Larson. While I’ve gotten a lot out of The Manager’s Path by Camille Fournier in terms of what’s expected of an engineering manager (and other roles), Will’s book provides richer detail on how to perform the tricky parts.

I’m also listening to and reading The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow. Much of my study occurs in the business psychology space, which in turn refers to the origins of the human psyche somewhat often. This book grabs my attention by reassessing what we take for granted about our origins.

Study.

Recently, I’ve read Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman and The Status Game: On Human Life and How to Play It by Will Storr and am wrapping up my reading notes in preparation for integrating them into my Zettelkasten.
