title: Needs are concealed when psychological safety is lacking.
date: 2022-01-01

Needs are concealed when psychological safety is lacking.

Psychological safety allows people to take the risk of being unguarded together, but without this, expressing needs may either be a presumed risk to social status, or explicitly so. This can harm their effectiveness. Hiding needs can result in further displays of defensiveness, as lack of safety drives anxiety.[^G1][^B1]
