The event horizon is all-encompassing.

Due to spacetime distortions, being close to the event horizon changes field of view until everything above the horizon is compressed into a single point behind. Stars get brighter as EM is blueshifted into visible light. It is literally impossible to escape once inside as “outside” space is literally in the past–all directions are toward the singularity. 3D space stops having a meaning once inside.rR3
