Ego is the shadow side of status pursuit.
While status pursuit is neither positive nor negative per se, it very readily activates the negative behaviors of the ego. Ego demands status, as it flees from its fear of disconnection. Where its efforts fail, dominance often sets in, which can only compound the problem. Ego similarly defends belief.
